Safari 2022 June 26th

 

A couple of mechanical problems had to be overcome this morning. Ian arrived about 9.00am and chatted for a while. Later we visited his home where he showed us several items of his artwork. This was most interesting. Apart from carving in slate he paints with oils onto copper. His work is very effective. It is easy to check out his paintings by clicking on ‘Google’.

We drove back into Wilcannia and then headed for White Cliffs. Tonight we are camped on the top of a very rocky hill called Welsches Knob about six km south of White Cliffs. The sunset was magnificent showing very bright oranges and reds.

 

Safari 2022 June 25th

 

Again a beautiful day has dawned as we camp on the Darling River on the Mt Murchison Station. As yet we have not seen Ian Marr who owns the property. His assistant, Peter, brought us down here last night. We enjoyed an lengthy walk across country and by a couple of bends in the river.

The nights are quite cold and especially the mornings.

Safari 2022 June 24th

 

Another fine and warm day. The nights and early mornings are quite cool. We left about 9.30 am to head for Ivanhoe and on to Wilcannia. There was very little traffic on the road, so it was easy to pull off the bitumen at lunch time. After lunch we have come up the Darling River to Mt Murchison where Ian Marr lives. We met Ian some years ago. He is an artist who specialises in the art of carving slate which he transports from South Australia.  Consequently he invited us to stay on his property and camp on the Darling River. This is where we are this evening watching the very full and swift Darling River as it makes its way south. The Coolabah and Red Gum trees are wonderful to camp under.
